Like 100 + years ago, girls weren't aloud to go to school.. Girls where supposed to work at home take
care of their siblings and cleaning, cooking etc.
Boys were the only onezs going to school, so when girls where aloud to go to school they where put
in a different class with only girls because they thought girls couldn't keep up with the boys.
Girls where also expected to drop school and become a wife, mom and housemade etc. School
wasn't that important for them. This all changed after war when females where more important and
seen as smart.
Lets talk history points
Early 1800's: Several seminaries are opened for girls, which provided them with a liberal arts
education that s equivalent to a high school education. Many of these schools, including Emma
Willard (established in 1821),
UK: In the 1950's, Women were questioning the social constructions in womens education and, as
a result, single-sex organization was adopted because it mirrored the boys education.
In the late 1800's: Co-education is basically universal in American primary and secondary schools.
1919 UK: Less than one-quarter of all schools are single-sex.
1994 In Irvington, NJ a school held single-sex classes but was forced to cancel them due to the
amount of opposition
Jan 1, 1996 More single-sex schools began opening.
Oct 1, 2006 An amendment to No Child Left Behind (2001), allowed school districts to be more
flexible to implement single-sex classes in schools.
Jan 1, 2007 Around 80 single-sex schools were open throughout the United States.
Right now in the present woman and men have the same rights, but that doesn't mean woman are
threathed the same. There are still more woman schools.
