The Negative Logarithm (-log) is a factor found on the calculator and employed in mathematics but very evident in chemistry, without which parameters such as pH, pOH, pKa, pKb cannot be computed. In chemistry, these are the formulae for the application of the negative logarithm in computing the parameters listed above; pH = -log [H+], pOH = -log[OH-], pKa = -log[Ka], pKb = -log[Kb].
It’s clear that, without the negative logarithm factor, computation of these parameters will be impossible. Also, we must thank the calculator for having the -log factor which makes solutions to the above parameters easy to compute.
