A study on Chinese children's knowledge of environmental issues. The impact of human activities on the environment has become visible and the fact that China is the largest CO2 emitter in the world should not be ignored, as according the International Monetary Fund (The Economist, 2012a), the amount of greenhouse gases emitted by China will increase as the country become an even bigger economic power. For this reason, this dissertation discusses the role that environmental education can play in shaping the world’s future, focussing on Chinese young people. In particular, this dissertation investigates their views on environmental issues and their knowledge and understanding of environmental concepts. From a questionnaire administered to 100 Chinese students aged between 12 and 15 it emerges that there are several misconceptions about environmental issues, their causes and nature, which schools, governments and families should address, because if children understand the gravity of the present environmental situation, they will be able to take action to make the world a better place to live.
